How to remove the Canva watermark (2026)
The Canva watermark is a tiled diagonal grid over premium photos, videos and elements in your design, and it exists at the asset level: pay for the asset and the tiles vanish. The clean fix is Canva Pro, whose 30-day free trial unlocks the whole premium library, so every watermarked design you have exports clean during the trial.
The free fix is a swap: replace each premium element with a free equivalent and the design exports clean on the free plan. Removal tools are the last resort here, because the tiled grid covers the whole asset; they only make sense on a file that was exported watermarked and cannot be reopened.

Three ways to remove the Canva watermark
Ordered by how clean the result is. The official route always comes first when the platform offers one.
Unlocks the premium assets causing the tiles, permanently and at full quality. The 30-day trial covers a one-off design without paying anything; after it, Pro is $15 a month for one person.
Try Canva Pro (opens in a new tab)Click each tiled asset, hit the star filter for free alternatives, replace, export. Zero cost, zero reconstruction, and the design stays editable.
For a watermarked export you can no longer reopen. Generative Fill rebuilds under the tiles; expect real work, the grid covers the whole asset.
Try Photoshop (opens in a new tab)Export your Canva design without the watermark, step by step
The official route, and the shortest one: the trial signup is a few clicks, and every design in your account benefits at once. The price after the trial, $15 a month for one person, was read off Canva’s pricing page on 24 August 2026; plan details are in the Canva Pro review.
-
Find which elements carry the Canva watermark
Open the design and click anything showing the tiled grid. Canva labels premium content with a crown; every crowned element in the design is one source of the watermark, and there are often fewer than the tiling suggests.
-
Start the Canva Pro trial, or swap the elements
The 30-day trial unlocks every premium asset in one step. If you would rather stay free, select each crowned element and use the search filter for free alternatives; a close free match exists for most stock photos and shapes.
-
Export the design again
Download in your usual format; with the assets unlocked or swapped, the tiles are simply gone. Nothing is reconstructed, so text stays sharp and photos keep full resolution, which no removal tool can promise.
-
Check the export and mind the trial date
Confirm the file is clean, then note the trial end date if you used one: designs relying on premium assets will watermark again on downgrade. Export everything you need while the trial runs, or keep Pro if the library earns its fee.

Why Canva puts a watermark on premium content
The tiles are a paywall, not branding: Canva licenses its premium photo, video and element library per subscription, and the grid is what an unlicensed asset looks like in an export. Your own uploads and free-library content never carry it.
That asset-level design is why removal tools are the wrong first answer. The grid sits over the exact pixels of the premium asset, usually across faces and detail, and reconstructing a whole photo is a harder job than any remover in our ranking is built for. Unlock or swap the asset and the problem stops existing.
Is it legal to remove the Canva watermark?
Through the official routes, it is not just legal, it is the product: the trial and the Pro plan exist to license the premium assets, and the free-element swap uses content Canva gives away. Both leave you with a design you fully own the rights to use.
Erasing the tiles from a premium asset with an external tool is different: the watermark is the licence boundary, and painting it out does not license the stock photo underneath. For anything commercial, client work above all, unlock the asset properly; the trial makes that free for a month.
Canva watermark FAQ
How do I remove the watermark from my Canva design?
Unlock or replace the premium assets causing it. The Canva Pro trial clears every tiled element for 30 days at no cost, or you can swap each crowned element for a free equivalent and stay on the free plan. Either way the design re-exports clean at full quality.
How do I remove the Canva watermark without paying?
Replace the premium elements. Click each asset showing the tiled grid, search for a free alternative, swap it in and export again. It costs nothing and avoids reconstruction entirely; the 30-day Pro trial is the other no-payment route for a one-off design.
Why does my Canva design have a watermark on it?
At least one element in it comes from Canva’s premium library: a crowned stock photo, video or graphic. The free plan exports free content clean; only unlicensed premium assets carry the tiled grid. Click each element to find the crowns.
Does the Canva Pro trial really remove the watermark?
Yes, fully: the trial is a real Pro subscription for 30 days, so every premium asset unlocks and every design exports clean. Designs that depend on premium content will watermark again if you cancel and downgrade, so export what you need during the trial.
Can a watermark remover erase the Canva tiles from an export?
On a simple background, partially; on a premium photo, not cleanly. The grid tiles across the entire asset, and rebuilding a whole image is beyond what one-tap removers do well. Photoshop’s Generative Fill is the tool built for that scale of reconstruction, and reopening the design remains the better fix.
Is removing the Canva watermark allowed for commercial work?
Only via licensing: the watermark marks an unlicensed premium asset, and erasing it does not grant the usage rights your client work needs. Canva Pro licenses the library for commercial use, which is the point of paying for it. The element-swap route is also fully safe.
