Watermarkly review: 9.1/10 on our five criteria

Watermarkly is the best batch watermarking tool in our ratings, and it is not close: hundreds of photos through one queue with tiling, opacity and position templates intact, 9.1/10 overall, and a genuinely unusual privacy story, processing runs locally in the browser tab and the vendor documents that no image data is uploaded. It tops the batch watermark ranking.

Its scope is deliberate: adding watermarks to photos and PDFs, in volume. No video, no removal, and an interface that looks a decade old and works anyway. One catch to know before you start: the free version stamps a Watermarkly logo on every export next to your own mark, so real output needs the $19.95 yearly plan or the $39.95 permanent one.

Is Watermarkly worth it?

Buy it
Buy it to brand or protect photo sets regularly: templates, deep batches and local processing are exactly that job.
Skip it
Skip it for video watermarking, and it removes nothing: this is the protection side of the site only.
Instead
Star Watermark (8.5/10) covers video and images in one desktop queue on a cheaper one-off licence, minus the browser convenience.

Batch at 9.6 is the highest single criterion score in our ratings, earned on a documented queue depth in the hundreds of files, settings that persist across mixed orientations, and EXIF-driven templates. Quality at 9.0 rates the watermark rendering itself: user reports describe clean edges, correct opacity and no compression surprises, and complaints are rare.

Value at 9.0 reflects a $19.95 year with no auto-renewal and a permanent plan that ends the subscription question, offset slightly by a free version that is really a demo. Nothing in the profile scores below 9.

What Watermarkly removes, job by job

The four jobs that decide the score, judged on the documented workflow and on what users report.

  1. Large photo batches with templates that hold

The documented workflow is a folder drop, one template, one run: a tiled logo at low opacity, position set as a percentage of the frame, and the date pulled from EXIF per file. Templates apply to portrait and landscape alike, and users running sets of several hundred photos report the queue neither stalling nor drifting, the two failures that kill batch tools.

That capacity is the review. If your work involves delivering or publishing photo sets, this is the tool the batch ranking exists to point at.

  2. Local processing: the privacy story the vendor documents

Watermarkly processes in the browser tab itself, and the vendor documents it: image data is never uploaded to a server during a batch. For client work under NDA, that is a different category of tool than any upload-based service.

The cost of local processing is your own hardware doing the work; users on older laptops report large batches taking a while, CPU-bound and unhurried. A fair trade.

  3. Templates, tiling and the settings that matter

Templates store the full mark definition, logo, text, tiling pattern, opacity, percentage position, and they can be shared across a team. Tiling honours spacing and rotation settings, which decides whether a protective watermark actually resists removal.

The controls go exactly as deep as the job needs and no deeper; nothing here is decoration.

  4. PDF watermarking, and the things it does not do

PDF batches follow the same workflow as photos, with the same local processing, which makes it our pick for stamping documents. Video is absent entirely, and so is any removal capability.

The dated interface deserves one sentence: it looks old, behaves correctly, and users stop mentioning it once the first template exists.

Watermarkly plans compared
Plan Price What it unlocks
Free $0 forever Full feature set, but a Watermarkly logo is added to every export
One-year access $19.95 per year, no auto-renewal No added logo, templates, PDF support, up to 10 devices
Permanent access Our pick $39.95 one-time Everything, paid once, up to 10 devices, 30-day money-back

What free Watermarkly handles

Every tool in the interface, including batches and templates, but each export leaves with a Watermarkly logo stamped next to your own watermark. That makes the free version a full demo rather than a production tier: you can build a template and confirm the workflow on your files, but nothing it exports is publishable.

Quality and local processing are identical on every tier; the paid plans simply remove the added logo. The free comparisons treat it accordingly, as a paid tool with an open demo rather than a free one.

One year or permanent access

Batch watermarking is periodic work, which makes the permanent plan at $39.95 the obvious buy: it costs the same as two years of the $19.95 plan and ends the matter. Both cover up to 10 devices and carry a 30-day money-back period.

The one-year plan suits a single busy season and does not auto-renew, so there is no forgotten charge. Either way the bill is small against any subscription remover in our ratings.

Watermarkly pros and cons

  • Processes images in the browser, nothing is uploaded to a server
  • Handles 500+ photos per batch with tiling, opacity and EXIF templates
  • Reusable watermark templates you can share across a team
  • No video watermarking
  • The interface looks dated next to newer tools

Watermarkly FAQ

Is Watermarkly any good?

9.1/10 on our five criteria, the highest score in our ratings: batches in the hundreds of photos with templates that persist, and processing that stays in your browser without uploading files. Its scope is adding watermarks to photos and PDFs; it does no video and no removal.

Is Watermarkly free?

Only as a demo: the free version has the full feature set but adds a Watermarkly logo to every export next to your own mark. Clean output starts at $19.95 for one year with no auto-renewal, and the permanent plan at $39.95 ends the subscription question for a periodic-use tool.

Does Watermarkly upload my photos?

No, according to the vendor’s own documentation: processing runs locally in the browser tab, and image data is not sent to a server during a batch. For confidential or client work, that is its strongest argument.

Can Watermarkly watermark videos?

No, photos and PDFs only. For video branding, Star Watermark queues clips and images together on a one-off licence, and Filmora applies watermark presets inside its editor; both are in our batch watermark ranking.

How many photos can Watermarkly process at once?

Hundreds per batch: the paid plans are documented for large sets, and users report several hundred files per run with the template applied consistently from first to last. The free version processes the same batches but stamps its own logo on each export.

What is the best Watermarkly alternative?

Star Watermark for video support and offline desktop work on a cheaper one-off licence; Canva Pro when the job is branding designs rather than files; Fotor if you want light adding and removing under one subscription.
